When students think about what they want to do after Class 12 they usually think about choices like engineering, Doctor, teachers or government jobs. Law is often not considered and ignored. Many people think being a lawyer means spending years in court with no money, no stability and no chance to grow.
But the truth is, law is really different now. Law is a profession that is really needed in business, technology, public policy and social change. With technology like Artificial Intelligence changing industries and new rules being made every year lawyers are more important than ever. We need lawyers to help us in these changes.
Law is around us even when we don’t notice it
Think about how much of our life depends on the Laws-
- When we click “I agree” to a websites privacy policy, the Information and Technology Act 2000 starts to apply.
- When we buy something from a online shopping platform, the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 is used.
- When a payment app is used for transaction, the Payment and Settlement Systems Act ,2007 comes into play.
- When we cross the road, the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 is at work. We need law to be safe when we walk, run, drive or ride on the road.
Laws are working behind the scenes all the time. This is why law careers are not about working in court. Today lawyers work with technology companies, startups, banks, big corporations, sports teams and even people who make content. Law is everywhere. Lawyers are needed in areas.
Many students do not realize that law offers career choices. One big benefit of studying law is the flexibility it offers. Not everyone who studies law becomes a courtroom lawyer or advocate. Some law graduates work in companies while others serve as advisors, compliance specialists, public officers , judicial officials or policy makers.
Ten years ago hardly any students thought attorneys would advise businesses on intelligence, data privacy or cybersecurity. For students in technology cyber law is an area. With the rise in cybercrimes and online fraud incidents organizations need experts who know both technology and law.
The startup environment has also created a need for professionals who can assist companies with contracts, intellectual property and regulations.
Will Technology Replace Lawyers?
Some students worry about artificial intelligence replacing jobs. That is a concern. However in law, human judgment is essential. Artificial Intelligence can help lawyers find information quickly or examine documents efficiently. It cannot resolve conflicts understand feelings convince a judge or make moral choices. The focus should be on Artificial Intelligence and its benefits. Technology is creating possibilities of removing them. The future will be held by experts who can combine expertise with an understanding of advancing technologies like Artificial Intelligence.
The main concern must not be AI vs Advocate? Perhaps It should be AI and Advocate
Law- A Noble Profession
